About Us

Foyle Valley Athletics Club is a very successful, dynamic club that encompasses runners of all levels. The club is Derry ~ Londonderry based and attracts members from throughout the city and neighbouring border villages and towns.

Our Club was formed in 1992 and we currently have over 150 members. Our membership has grown steadily over the years with a particular hike in membership in 2013 following on the legacy of the inaugural Walled City Marathon.

Our Club Committee oversee the smooth running of the club and committed to supporting all members.

Aims of the Club

· To encourage members of all abilities to enjoy and to have fun through running.

· To promote the health and fitness of members through running.

· To provide social activities for members of the Club.

· To promote Amateur Athletics.

The Club has four qualified coaches, Gabriel Bell; Declan Doherty; Deirdre Quigg and Noreen Hyndman. This expertise has assisted us in attracting, retaining and developing members of all abilities. We offer varied training programmes, suited to all levels. Where possible we try to meet the wants and needs of our members should they wish to train for marathons or whether they want to specialise in shorter distances.

There is a training session most nights of the week and on Saturday. The Monday and Wednesday training group starts at 6pm in the summer months and 5:45pm during autumn and winter. This group is led by Gabriel Bell.

The Tuesday and Thursday group meet at Templemore Sports Complex at 5:30pm. Mickey Clifford and Tony Grant are familiar with the current training schedules for this group.

During the year we organise and manage three very successful local races. Wilkies Race in May; The out the Line Series during the summer months and Marty’s Run in October. These races attract upwards of 100 entrants. In 2013 Marty’s Run attracted over 900 runners and walkers making it the largest 5k event in Northern Ireland.
