Foyle Valley A.C  runners were once again out in large numbers to support Martin Mc Callion of  Brooke Park Leisure Centre who organises   the  annual Hillview Four Mile road  race  out the back of Glenowen and back up the steep incline at the “by-wash” .  Last  Wednesday’s event  was to raise funds for nominated charity, the N.I Childrens Hospice. This run  is close to the heart of Foyle Valley runners  as it is particularly associated with late Marty Gallagher who won it in 2009. Marty’s brothers Ryan and Richard  both took part on Wednesday last, Ryan finishing fourth in an impressive  23.46 and Richard further back  in 26.26, running well under seven minute mile pace.

First to cross the line this year, in this hilly and testing race, was Foyle Valley’s Pius Mc Intyre in  22.47 followed home by Foyle Valley’s veteran Paddy Nicell 23.21 and then third was Creggan man, Foyle Valley’s Ryan Snodgrass 23.30. First lady home was the ever  improving, Lorraine Carlin, breaking thirty minutes with a cracking time of 29.21.  Other notable finishers were husband and wife team Mark and Trish Mc Clintock coming home with personal best timings of 27.26 and 30.23 respectively. Great once again to see Kevin O’ Neill back running In Foyle Valley colours  and finishing gamely side by side  with triathlete Tony Morrison.
