Foyle Valley AC At the Belfast marathon
Foyle Valley were once again represented at the 30th Anniversary of the Belfast City Marathon on May Day bank holiday last when Masters Mc Nulty, Deehan and Wylie travelled east to fly the purple flag for the evergrowing North West Athletic club. Record numbers were once again recorded for this fantastic event where over 21000 participants took up the challenge to either run the full 26.2 mile distance individually or as part of a Relay team. Record times were once again broken when Kenyan runner Jacob Kipkorir Cheshire smashed Marty Deanes long standing 1985 record by some 55 seconds crossing the line on 2:14:56 whilst the Ukraine's Vira Ovcharuk was the first lady to cross the line with a superb 2:46 posting some two minutes ahead of her nearest rival. Weather conditions were not exactly favourable for some of the participations as they had to endure hot sunshine coupled with exposed windy sections of the course. First to cross the line for the purple vests of Foyle Valley was seasoned athlete Packy Deehan posting a very respectable 3:42 timing for his 14th marathon to date. Next home for the Valley was the evergreen Harry Mc Nulty for his 44th marathon with a 3:46 posting all the more remarkable for the 61 year old athlete who seems to have fully recovered from a nasty leg fracture a few years back. Marathon debutant Davy Wylie then proudly crossed the line with a 4:10 timing to proudly pick up his medal for his fine efforts well done Davy.
