Pius McIntyre (16:16) continues his recent run of good form with a great second place finish at last nights Dunree 5k. He pushed winner Joe McKinney, Inishowen AC (16:14), all the way to the line in a hard fought battle that wasn’t settled until the very end. Helena Crossan of Inishowen AC (18:31) notched up another impressive win in the ladies event.  

This was the first running of the event and the course was a straight out and back layout. The initial downhill stretch gave a fast start but steady climbs through 2-3k and some wind against coming home made this a very tough track for all the competitors. Over 170 runner/walkers took part in a hugely successful event. The facilities were first class and the picturesque backdrop of Lough Swilly made the event hugely enjoyable.

Again Foyle Valley was well represented and there were some great performances. Cathal McLaughlin (16:33) gave a tenacious display holding on for third place. Keith Shiels (17:21) produced an eye catching display coming home in 7th spot with Barry Smith (17:40) hot on his heels finishing just ahead in a duel with Inishowen’s Declan Caldwell (17:41) for 9th spot. Ciaran Graham (18:03) led home a cluster of valley athletes under 19 minutes: The Gallagher brothers (Ryan and Richie), Mark Linton, Teague Whoriskey, Ciaran Bradley and Declan Doherty all putting in good performances. Tom Doherty (19:02) picked up the M45 category prize

For the ladies it was great to see Sandra McKeever back in action after her recent injuries finishing 11th. Martina McMullen had a great fourth place finish. Trish McClintock (8th), Denise Doherty (12th) and Kate Meehan (13th) made it another great showing from the FV ladies.
