This was a tremendous night for Foyle Valley at race 5 of the Furey 5 k series. No fewer than 10 pbs were recorded as Scott Rankin stormed to victory and virtually sealed the overall series title with a sensational 15:27 over the much feared Carndonagh 5k track. Scott ran a classic middle distance race allowing Brendan Murphy of City of Derry to set the early pace and then pull away in the final uphill stretch for an emphatic win.
Inishowen AC,s M40 Joe McKinney (16:02) fresh from victory in Dunree stormed home in third, followed by Valley’s Pius McIntyre 4th (16:18), Cathal McLaughlin 5th (16:24) and Chris McGuinness 7th (16.34)  . ‘Novice’ Keith Shiels dumbfounded observers again running an incredible 16:45, for 8th spot. Keith has now improved his PB by nearly 2 minutes in less than 2 months!!!The effervescent Paddy Nicell (17:05) claimed 10th spot making 6 out the top ten for the purple vests.
The women’s honours went again to Helena Crossan (18:17) Inishowen AC who also all but sealed the series victory with this performance, with the City of Derry’s Catherine Lilburn (19:27) next and the Valley’s Martina McMullan, (19:53) in third. 19 Foyle Valley athletes made the trip to Carndonagh to support the Inishowen AC/City of Derry event which had 145 finishers. Although the race was poorly attended by the joint hosts City of Derry this did not take way from a great event. The race was staged in excellent conditions with a large crowd of spectators gathered in the Triangle in the centre of town to cheer the runners home.

Paul Slevin (17:57) was delighted with his PB and was closely followed home by Teague Whoriskey (18:13). Chris Ryan (18:49) just managed to hold off Barry Dinsmore (18:53) and Tom Doherty (18:54) to maintain bragging rights for now! Conor Donaghy (20:06) also had another encouraging run.
